How to use Web3 at an IRL event: The motivation and plan

Happy New Year!

Last year I wrote about the "what" of Web3. What is it? What is it used for? What is so great about it?

This year, I will be writing about the "How."

When I began learning last year about blockchain technology, I was always searching for how to use the technology.

Comprehending a concept is one thing; using it is another.

Beginning this week, I will give you the inside scoop on how I use Web3 in my business. I'll share my motivation for the project, the plan, how I put it into action, the technology I used, lessons learned, and what you can try yourself.

Maybe I'll pull it off with great success or find out it was a total failure. Either way, I hope you find it valuable and give you the confidence to dive in.

I hope you like this new format!

Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2023!

My Motivation

I am in the midst of planning my first event for Founders Live in my city.

It is a competition where five startup founders have 99 seconds to pitch their business, followed by 4 minutes of Q&A from the audience. The audience then votes on their favorite, and a winner is determined.

The attendees of Founders Live are eager to hear new business ideas and want to offer support and guidance to these business owners. They also want to be entertained, network with others, and be incentivized to return to future events.

This group of attendees will be perfect for introducing a little Web3 to the party.

The Plan

  1. Create an NFT for all attendees to claim during the event.

  2. Decide on another word for NFT that is more "user-friendly." Some people may be scared off by the techie term "NFT."

  3. Design an eye-catching image for the NFT that is something desirable that people will want to collect.

  4. Work with a Web3 platform to create the NFT with details on how it will be collected and used. Use a company that I know and can provide personal guidance along the way.

  5. Write a message to help educate the audience about what it is, how to claim it, and what benefits it will unlock. Put together a slide deck with instructions that are easy to understand. Explain blockchain technology without complicated geek-speak.

  6. Send information to attendees ahead of the event about what to expect and how to create a new wallet if they choose.

  7. Brainstorm a list of benefits, prizes, discounts, and offers that the NFT holder can access. Reach out to sponsors and tell them how they can market their products and services exclusively to the token holders.

  8. Test it, revise, and test again. Try my best to work out all the kinks before the event takes place.

So how did it go?
