From Physical to Digital: Rethinking Award Management with Minero.io
Web3 is changing the way we will receive recognition.
Traditionally, centralized organizations, such as universities, government agencies, and professional associations, issue awards and certifications. However, with Web3, new decentralized platforms offer a more secure, transparent, and cost-effective way to deliver these types of recognition.
Minero.io is one such platform.
Cristina Diaz is the co-founder of Minero and offered answers to many of my questions surrounding the benefits of using Web3 and blockchain technology to create a better way to develop and manage awards.
Q: How did you come up with the idea for Minero?
Coming from a web2 background, we noticed that it's easy to fake your achievements/credentials, and we realized that blockchain technology is the perfect solution to ensure authenticity.
In some cases, organizations present only physical awards. They can be lost, damaged, copied, or even stolen. While displaying awards on shelves, walls, and desks may be nice, only a few people can view them in these private spaces.
We saw the need to create a digital twin to accompany the physical award to every recognized member.
Q: What are the advantages of using Web3 technology for awards and certifications?
Web3 technology provides portability. You can store your awards and achievements on your phone or laptop or display them in a metaverse platform. Our awards are AR/VR (augmented reality/virtual reality), which is the future of showcasing your trophies.
Additionally, we are using the ledger of the blockchain technology for authentication. This transparent information validates awards or certifications by anyone.
Q: Is it easy for people to create their awards? How much technical experience does someone need?
We provide organizations with the technology to certify the awards/certifications on the blockchain and design services. The honorees/winners will register with Minero to claim their awards.
Minero is a full-service web3 creative studio, and we work closely with organizations to create their real-life trophies into the digital twin. If there is no physical trophy to replicate, our team will create a digital one following the organization's brand guidelines.
Q: What is the experience like for recipients to receive their awards?
Recipients of the award will receive an email from the organization. The email message has a unique code for registering on Minero's platform. The recipient will use their email and wallet address (optional) to sign up. Once registered, their awards are minted (added to the blockchain), and they can view them on their profile page and share them on social media.
Q: How does the augmented reality feature work?
Access the AR feature on the token's detail page on a mobile device, represented by a cube icon on the lower right corner of the token viewer. When you tap on the AR feature, the camera will open to present the physical world onscreen live. The AR feature superimposes the 3D trophy, creating the illusion that the award exists right there in your space.
Q: How can using Minero add more value to your client's businesses?
Recognition is wanted and appreciated in business. Offering blockchain-verified awards and certifications increases the company's work's value and the training's credibility.
Q: Other than simply receiving the award or certification, what other uses for the NFT after the event?
Through the smart contract of the NFT, the organization and/or its sponsors may add certain benefits or perks. The perks can be as simple as membership, discount codes, or exclusive experiences.
Q: How will people show off their awards and certifications in the future? Will we all have trophy rooms in the metaverse? Will LinkedIn move towards Web3 to showcase these NFTs, or will brand-new decentralized platforms take over?
Our trophies are metaverse compatible, and the winner can showcase them in a metaverse trophy room.
They can also be shared on Linkedin and social media through an image link to the NFT details.
Q: What will the Oscars, Grammys, and Tony Awards be like in the future? What needs to happen to make it a reality?
Minero won't replace physical trophies like those, but we can create digital twins.
Some real-life trophies are given to agencies or teams where many individuals are involved in winning them; in this case, Minero can recognize every single member of those teams with a digital twin award.
Q: What are some potential collaborations you are looking to form?
We would love to work with universities, sports associations, golf clubs, and the entertainment industry (as mentioned above), to name a few.
Q: Will there be any use for our old sports trophies or diplomas in our basements and storage boxes? Can Minero replicate them?
Minero can work with organizations to develop a digital twin of those older physical awards. We call this the "DeLorean" feature - we can go back in time to mint awards from the past.
Q: What is your vision for Minero.io in the next five years?
The vision of Minero is that every organization that gives away awards and certifications embraces blockchain technology for authentication purposes.
Minero can help organizations give award recognitions in a digital, permanent, and easily verifiable way.
